As summer comes to an end, High Bridge Trail State Park is offering a weekend of unique programming on Friday, August 26th and Saturday, August 27th.This will be the perfect chance to explore the park while taking a historical walk through the village of Prospect or looking for the ever elusive wild asparagus that grows along the trail.
The Prospect Village Walk
On Friday, August 26th, Bob Flippen, the park’s AmeriCorps volunteer, will team up with members of the Prospect. Old pictures and artifacts relating to Prospect will be on display and the public is invited to view the architectural renderings and plans for the restoration of the old train depot. Plan to meet at 7 p.m. at the trail access point at Prospect which is located just beyond the old railroad depot. Plenty of parking is available.

Stalking the Wild Asparagus
You don’t want to miss this wild plant and wildflower educational walk on Saturday, August 27th, at 9:30 am and again at 7:00 pm. Trail volunteer and Chesterfield County Science teacher, Michael Stange, will lead a 1.5 mile walk from the River Road access point towards Farmville, pointing out some of the many spectacular native plants and animals that call the park home. Learn about many of the native flowers, grasses, shrubs and trees along the trail, how to identify them, their historical, culinary and medicinal uses and learn to stalk the ever elusive wild asparagus. He will also share recipes and cooking tips for using plants and recipes for basic wild teas for everyday maladies.
