As a kid I went camping most of the summer but I never left my backyard or owned a tent. We had one of those nearly extinct items – a clothesline. Downy, Bounce, Snuggle, eat your hearts out – a freshly washed sheet air dried on the line has it all over any artificial fragrance you can come up with! After the laundry came in, I clothes-pinned a couple of blankets to the line and used heavy objects from the yard to make a tent. It was heaven. That was before we had central air and that tent was better than sleeping upstairs!
I think clotheslines violate my neighborhood's rules now, but I now own a tent and also know a lot of great Virginia State Parks to go camping in. Buy over the years I think many people have forgotten the joys of sleeping under a tent or even just outside. Remember when southern homes came with sleeping porches?
