“The range is Hot—Fire!”
The Annual Virginia Hunter Education Challenge was held at Holiday Lake 4-H Center in Appomattox May 2-4, 2008. One hundred and eleven young men and women on 22 teams from across the Commonwealth competed in shotgun, rifle, archery, map and compass, “shoot/don’t shoot” scenarios, and a test of wildlife identification. Parents and team coaches also attended the event that was coordinated by the VDGIF and officiated by volunteer Hunter Education Instructors.
All the youth participants in the challenge have successfully completed a ten-hour Hunter Education Class and spent numerous hours practicing with a qualified shooting team. To learn about how you can participate contact Sgt. David Dodson ([email protected]).
Successfully completing a Hunter Education Class is mandatory in Virginia for new hunters age 12 and over to obtain a hunting license.
