Have you noticed how big social media has become? Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, Hillsman House. This historic farm house has been restored, starting with a near total reconstruction of its foundation and replacement of main support beams. A paint analysis was done by a professional from Williamsburg who determined the correct period colors for interior woodwork and wall covering. This was then duplicated with paints circa 1965. The dwelling is now fully furnished and is a house museum, with one room dedicated to interpreting the Hillsman family and the others to the buildings use as a Union army field hospital.
The Best New Facility went to three new visitor centers: Virginia State Park locations, a listing of each park’s amenities and environmentally conscious advertisers with deals and contests that help both the customer and our park system. The kits are made possible through a partnership with Government Solutions Group and helps produce revenue for our parks.
