Why not plan a low tech weekend getaway at the Virginia State Parks of your choice. Include family activities such as board games, roasting marshmallows, tell stories by the fire, plan a hike and bring field guides to identify trees and birds, bring supplies to create a craft, identify stars in the night sky, or attend a park interpretive program. To find an event or interpretive program in a park near you, click here.
The cabin kitchens are well stocked with cookware and dishes so one could plan a meal for the entire family to prepare together. Include a day trip to visit a local historical attraction or visit a Virginia Main Street Community. Bring the family pet too (overnight fees are charged for dogs in the cabins). So go ahead and make plans to say you will be away from the phone and you will not check messages…at least for a weekend. You’ll be glad you made Virginia State Parks part of your weekend plans
