The Friends of Lake Anna State Park (FOLASP) actively participate in the mission of Lake Anna State Park. That mission is to conserve the natural, cultural, scenic, and recreational resources of the park, as well as to provide a variety of recreational and educational opportunities and to promote environmental stewardship on one of Virginia’s largest lakes. You too can become involved.
You can earn benefits for your volunteer work. For example, you can earn free passes, free camping, and free cabin use at all Virginia State Parks. The ultimate benefit you can earn is a lifetime entrance pass to all Virginia State Parks along with the satisfaction of contributing to a great local resource.
Lake Anna State Park consists of more than 2800 acres with approximately 10 beautiful miles of shoreline on one of Virginia’s most popular lakes. The park features rental cabins, a campground, swimming beach, fishing pond accessible to children and people with disabilities, bathhouse-concessions complex, boat-launch facilities, pontoon boat rides, picnic areas, and multipurpose trails (hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding).
Visitor center exhibits trace the history of gold mining in the area and highlight the natural features of the park. Panning for gold and nature programs are popular activities. An outdoor environmental education pavilion, classroom in the woods (amphitheater), campfire theater, and primitive camping area are available for group use.
Since its inception in 2001, FOLASP has contributed in the neighborhood of $100,000 in infrastructure improvements at Lake Anna State Park that would not otherwise have been available to park visitors. Examples of these improvements include:
Funded and built 70 seat “classroom in the woods”
Funded campfire theater seating
Funded two beach spray-off stations and handicapped
accessible drinking fountain
Funded and helped build new deck at Snack Bar building
Purchased diaper-changing stations for the bathhouses
Purchased spine board and megaphones for beach safety
Created a shoreline erosion control demonstration project
