This is the second installment in my series on our new Facebook Souvenir Application. To send a souvenir, scroll down the left side of the page, click on Souvenirs, type in the name of your Facebook friend and select the souvenir to send.
This week’s featured souvenir is the Train Engine.
You would probably be surprised to learn how many of our Virginia State Parks have ties to trains and railways. Here are a few of the most significant links.
First, we have two rails to trails conversion parks – New River Trail State Park and our newest park High Bridge Trail State Park. Norfolk Southern Railway donated the abandoned railroad right aways for these trails. The High Bridge itself played a key role in the end of the Civil War.
Second, we have Natural Tunnel State Park whose namesake is still used today as an active railway tunnel.
Third, we have the gold mining history of Lake Anna State Park (more on that when we cover the gold nugget souvenir) which is also tied to trains and the railroad. Lake Anna is the first park to feature our Toddler Train play equipment.
Send the train engine or one of our other ten Facebook Souvenirs to your friends on Facebook today!
