This year’s Memories of My Father]
The award is not necessarily for the hardest worker, although certainly the winner worked hard. Instead the award is for the crew member who makes sure that no crew member needs extra attention. The crew member who helps motivate the crew through example and leadership is chosen to receive the award.
Gaston and I try to visit all of the programs each year. This year we made it to all but two of them. Gaston gives a motivational speech to the crew members that I do not grow tired of (and trust me, I have heard it a lot). Basically, he says, “you are the future.” When I sit at the program graduations and look at the young men an women and think of the significant projects they accomplished in lieu of a summer spent idle, Irealize that there is reason to have hope for the future.
