The Friends of Chippokes Plantation State Park is hosting
the Chippokes Harvest Celebration on Saturday, October 18, 2014
11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Feel the crisp breeze on your cheeks as the smell of cinnamon spice wafts through the air. Walk along the historic Quarter Lane while leaves crunch underfoot or take a hay ride through the farm fields. Chippokes Plantation State Park is hosting a good old-fashioned harvest celebration with a couple of optional spooky activities. As the oldest continually farmed land in Virginia, the park houses the ante-bellum Jones-Stewart Mansion and the Farm & Forestry Museum which will both be open for tours.
There will be pumpkin decorating and scarecrow making
There are lots of fun activities and historic demonstrations like colonial children's games, scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, blacksmith demonstrations, basket weaving exhibits, and so much more. The two Halloween themed activities are the Chippokes Ghost Tour at 5 p.m. and the Haunted Garden Walk at 6 p.m.
The entire event is free, but there is a $5 per car parking fee. Craft and food vendors will also be selling their wares at the event.

Costumed interpreters will be displaying old fashioned harvest and kitchen methods.

The park has approximately 50 campsites, four historic cabins, picnic shelters, playgrounds, visitor center, hiking trails, and several historic buildings.The Olympic-sized swimming pool has closed for the season, but you can walk along the shores of the James River hunting for fossils and shark teeth.
