What's Your Virginia State Park Visitation Style?
Are You a Repeater or an Explorer?
During the 4th of July festivities at First Landing State Park, I noticed an exceptionally large family group hanging out on the beach. They seemed so comfortable and well-prepared…pop up tents, card games, portabletables, Frisbees, sand toys, and coolers of food. It was a seriously thought-out, multi-generational set up!
Marine life educational programs are popular at First Landing State Park!
During casual conversation, I found out that the patriarch of this family had been coming to First Landing State Park(then known as Seashore State Park) every yearfor over 40 years! First coming as a child with his grandparents, he now takes joy in introducing the next generation to the park's Bald Cypress Swamps and sandy Chesapeake Bay beaches. His story made me wonder about my own visitation style and why some people go to the same park over and over again and why some people branch out and explore new parks at every opportunity.
Are you a "Repeater" or an "Explorer"?
My own visitation style falls somewhere in between a "Repeater" and an "Explorer."We never missour annuallong weekend fall trip to the relatively new Lake Anna State Park where my three-year-old son could not get enough of the new train playground by the lake!
Kids love the new playground at Lake Anna State Park!
Are you a long weekender or a traditional week long visitor?
Because my job has me on the road to different Grayson Highlands State Park.
The cabins at James River State Parks are my family's favorite fall destination.
