Spring is the time of year we begin planting vegetable and flower gardens and what better way to conserve water and economically water your garden than with water from a rain barrel. The Clean Virginia Waterways is hosting a rain barrel workshop on Tuesday, April 26 at Twin Lakes State Park.
Although rain barrels are available at garden stores, they are not cheap! During the workshop, you will convert a heavy plastic pickle barrel into a functional rain barrel. In addition to learning how to install and maintain your rain barrels, you will learn about your role in water conservation and water quality protection, and how you impact the Chesapeake Bay and other waterways. A recycled barrel, tools and supplies will be provided.
You can also learn how to plan and promote a workshop in your community by attending the Train-the-Trainer Workshop immediately following the Rain Barrel Workshop.
The Rain Barrel Workshop will be held at Cedar Crest Conference Center at Twin Lakes State Park on 788 Twin Lakes Road in Green Bay, Virginia from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per rain barrel.
