Our family bought the collectible Virginia State Parks Monopoly Game* a few years ago, and since our purchase, not only has it become a vacation tradition, but we have also made it our goal to visit every Virginia State Park on the board!
Virginia State Parks Monopoly has become a tradition for our family vacation. Can you guess what park we went to this year?
Since then, of course, happily, the state park system has been outgrowing our game, and has made a few changes:
a) There is now a High Bridge Trail State Park,
b) Caledon Natural Area Preserve is now a state park,
c) Staunton River "Battlefield" was a "Bridge" on the game board,
And of course,
d) There is a brand new park which is located along 2.5 miles of the James River "Powhatan State Park", and will have its grand opening Saturday July 6, 2013. It will become Virginia's 36th State Park!
Besides the really cute game pieces, like a fairy stone, canoe, ranger hat, opossum…we had a great time remembering each park we have been to, and want to visit again! This visit was to Occoneechee State Park (if you saw that in the first photo). Occoneechee State Park doesn't have the greatest web presence, because trust me, in person it is amazing!
If you have never been you have no idea what you are missing!
In the near future I will be writing a few other articles sharing a "Featured Cabin" and more things to see and do at Occoneechee State Park I think you will enjoy! If you follow the Park of the Monthseries, where the marketing team highlights one park per month, you may have already learned some things about Occoneechee State Park.
*Unfortunately this collectible edition board game is just that, collectible, and no longer available for purchase. Some parks have them in certain cabins and maybe gift shop close-out sections, but I am not sure which and where.
