The more things change, the more they stay the same
Family memories are never far away at Hungry Mother State Park
More than 78 years ago, during one of this country’s darkest times, the Civilian Conservation Corpswas developed. The purpose was to give young men a chance to work to help support their families during the Great Depression. The teams were dispersed and projects were assigned. Projects varied in type of work as well as the location.
You can almost see relaxation in the air
One of these projects was the development and construction of six parks that would be the beginning the of Governor George C. Peery, were coming to town. And the swell of excitement took over the small community. They knew this community would never be the same. And they were right.
Hungry Mother State Park is still a family favorite.
Hungry Mother State Park has played a role in many lives during those 78 years. First swims, first jobs, and first kisses are just a part of the history that make this place so special to those of us lucky enough to call it home. Family vacations, new friends and summer loves make the memories for those who are lucky enough to visit.
