Wilderness Road State Park's Visitor Center has consistently received outstanding compliments based on its offerings, clean bathrooms, state-of-the-art theater and of course its unique exterior features. First-time visitors often walk up and knock on the Visitor Center's siding to confirm it is real wood.
Over the past 7 years, the Visitor Center has welcomed more than 500,000 visitors, witnessed some of the park's greatest successes and unfortunately had to endure the wrath of many storms, snowfalls as well as the harsh sun. It has taken its toll on one of the Commonwealth of Virginia's newer visitor centers, leaving unsightly blackened stains and bleached areas.
the direction of park ranger David Cope, the Visitor Center is receiving a facelift in the form of a fresh new coat of stain. After thoroughly cleaning the blackened stains, the crew swiftly began applying a new coat of stain. Now, the exterior of the building shines bright with its new face, one that the entire staff, and all of Virginia State Parks can be proud of.
The maintenance staff members undertaking the project includes: Gene Smith, Michael Smith, Josh Barnes and Michael Wiggins.
