House of Blues, a workshop dedicated to building a nesting box for the Eastern Bluebird, on Saturday, April 5 beginning at 2 p.m. The workshop fee, including your very own nesting box, is just $8 per person. Registration is required as space is limited to the first 20 to sign up.
Now is the perfect time to create your own House of Blues
Utilizing a simple bluebird house plan, park rangers will assist participants in creating a birdhouse (nesting box) designed for the nativeEastern Bluebird.
How you can help
The program will feature a short presentation on the importance of providing a birdhouse habitat and the conservation role they play. For example, in the 1960's there was a growing fear Eastern Bluebirds would become extinct. But conservation efforts, such as bluebird nest-boxes, allowed the Eastern Bluebird to move from the endangered species status to the least concerned conservation status.
Other birds known to frequent these nest-boxes include chickadees, nuthatches and swallows.
