If you consider yourself fearless, are you ready to prove it? On Oct. 19, 2013, Emory and Henry College will be presenting the Fall Fear Bike Race atHungry Mother State Park.In 2013, the race course will involve different trails in the park. The intense bike race will follow the park’s Clyburn Trail system. Categories include beginners, sport, and expert/pro. Each category will have a male and female class.
Are you ready to prove you're fearless?
Beginners –one lap or 5.7 miles.
Sports– 9.7 miles or 2 lap race
Expert/Pros-17.7 miles or 4 laps
Mountain biking is popular even if you are not in a race.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at the group campground across from the park’s Camp Burson Campground. The pre-race meeting will be at 9:45 a.m. Race fees will be $15 if you pre-register and $20 day of the race. All proceeds will go to the Friends of Hungry Mother. Driving directions to Hungry Mother State Park:
Coming from the South (Abingdon/Bristol):
Take I-81 exit 47. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp andgo 0.1 miles to the intersection with Hwy 11. Turn left ontoHwy 11 and go into Marion.
or
Coming from the North (Wytheville/Roanoke):
Take I-81 exit 47. The exit ramp ends at Hwy 11. Turn left onto Hwy 11and go into Marion.
Once you are on Hwy 11, go straight at the first traffic light (near theclosed Exxon station.) The second traffic light will be at the McDonalds andBP/Subway intersection. At this light, turn right onto Hwy 16 and follow this roadfor about 3.8 miles to Hungry Mother State Park (go straight at the traffic lightnear the hospital). Turn right into the park, and be sure to stop at the entrancegate and let them know you are coming to the race. You will be able to see theregistration area from the entrance.
