Hello! My name is Hope. On August 6, 2011 there will be a Hike for the Cause Event at National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.
Traditionally garden gnomes are known for bringing luck and help to humans in the garden and the house. I thought I would help out at Leesylvania State Park with raising awareness for breast cancer by bringing hope (my name), courage, and strength to those who have been touched by Breast Cancer. I hope I am dressed appropriately.
I have been preparing a clean path for all the hikers. Oh my 4 miles takes some time, but it is worth it!! Hiking up and down hills; through the picnic area and trails sure tires me, but luckily I have suitable shoes for the hike. There are amazing things that you will find on the trail like birds, flowers, and deer. They make me feel right at home.
After the hike there will be displays on prevention/detection and helping services in the area, crafts, and a raffle with different items in pink. If you love pink as much as I do you will love everything about this.
Like my friend Eleanor Roosevelt always said “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” I want to applaud all of you who take up this challenge to help National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc with their mission to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and providing mammograms for those in need.
Little gnome fact: Physical activity benefits the immune system and lowers estrogen levels. Women can begin lowering their risk of breast cancer with as little as four hours of exercise per week. Hiking for the Cause is a good start! Look forward to seeing you at Leesylvania State Park.
