Come out and enjoy the James River Raft Race on Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at James River State Park while participating in events all day with the whole family.
The James River Raft Race promises a whole day of fun including: a fishing clinic, a kids fishing derby held at Green Hill Pond at James River State Park, a game station, river races, a car show and live music at the Canoe Livery at James River State Park.
The adventurous two-mile race down the river has a variety of categories. Pick to enter the canoe race, kayak race, inflatable craft race, and the crowd favorite the homemade river vessels.
Pre-registration is encouraged with a nominal fee and prizes are awarded for the fishing derby and water races. Food and drinks are available for sale, and in case of rain the rain date is July 26.
After the Raft Race the events don’t stop there. Enjoy Bluegrass Under the Stars at the amphitheater from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Bring the family and enjoy great music in a setting overlooking the historic James River. A different guest band will be hosted every month including Hard Driving Grass, Deer Creek Boys, Eddie Gill and the Grass Masters, and Dobie Toms and Faith Ridge.
So, bring the lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy an evening of music. There is a $10 per person fee and kids under 12 get in free.
