From March 3 throughMarch 23, 2013Douthat State Park hostedfour volunteer groups ranging fromsix to 15 participants apiece.
Alternative Spring Break Group clean up campground at Douthat State Park
The groups were from:
- Christopher Newport University (Virginia)
- Albright College (Pennsylvania)
- King State College (New Hampshire)
- Iowa State University (Iowa)
These groups worked on projects such as trail repairs, campground preparations, flower bed maintenance, cabin deep cleaning, and leaf removal.
At Lakeside Campground cleaning up at Douthat State Park
I was impressed with the work ethic of each individual who participated. Each group had their own strengths and weaknesses, but each had a zeal for making a difference in the world. I was able to participate in reflections from each group, and it surprised me how much the groups accomplishments meant to the individuals.
One volunteer stated
“This trip has changed my life, and may have saved it.”
When I heard that, it really made me appreciate the fact that we were able to make an impact on the lives of the 48 college students who had made the trip to Douthat State Park.
