Okay, so I thought if I posted this really, really late (or early, depending on your perspective) you might not notice I missed Thursday all together. Actually, I could say I made it before the end of Thursday if we were still in Standard Time, or that I made it while it was still Thursday in three of the four mainland U.S. time zones. Or, I could just say that since I was still up I was still counting it as Thursday. If you knew the day I had, you would cut me some slack anyway.
I hate that I am late particularly because this is my favorite of our postcards. This picture came from our volunteer blogger, Shellie. I love Shellie's posts and I really loved this picture when she took it. The picture is from Hungry Mother State Park and features Molly's Knob in the background. What I like about it though is more the attitude. It just screams "I did it – I hiked Molly's Knob.'
I asked our staff for input on the pictures we selected for this postcard app. I did not get many suggestions but when Shellie suggested this one, I thought it conveyed just the right message.
I picked this postcard this week because I am out in the mountains of southwest Virginia as I write this. I'm not at Hungry Mother though, I'm an hour and a half farther west at Natural Tunnel State Park (and we even have two more parks up to an hour or so even farther west). Five state capitals are closer to these three parks than Richmond is.
Adapting a John Muir quote: If the mountains are calling you must come here!
Natural Tunnel State Park
I have driven from Yorktown to Natural Tunnel to Lexington, Virginia and back to Natural Tunnel State Park since Tuesday and I can tell you, the drive is easy and it is worth it to experience these parks!
Send this postcard or one of the other nine to your friends on Facebook. You can access the application by Virginia State Parks Facebook page and look for "Send a Postcard" on the left under the picture.
