Over 200 years ago, the Wilderness Road was a main travel route to move westward.
On October 22, 2011 The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association will re-create life in the fall along the trail at the Frontier Harvest Celebration.
The Blockhouse at Natural Tunnel State Park
The celebration will be held at the Natural Tunnel State Park beginning at 1 p.m. Come smell, taste and touch history. Demonstrations will be available throughout the day and will include basket making, natural dying, soap making and much more. The event will conclude at 5 p.m.

The day doesn’t have to end there! Why not join staff on a Fall Fincastle Hayride? The hayride will depart from the Blockhouse parking lot at 5:30 p.m. It is a great way to see the local fall colors along the mountain side. Who knows, we might spot a few deer as we ride. You won’t want to forget your camera or weather appropriate clothes for this family-friendly trip. The ride will last approximately 1 ½ hour. Pre-registration and a small fee are required for the trip. The hayride will also be offered on Oct. 1st & 8th.
The cost is $5 for an adult and $3 for children 12 and under. Please register by calling (276) 940-1643.
