WEEKDAYS GO WILD AT BEAR CREEK LAKE STATE PARK!
2011 is the 75th anniversary of Virginia State Parks. To celebrate, Bear Creek Lake State Park has scheduled a variety of weekday interpretive programs beginning in June and continuing through August. Nature programs, beginner activities and evening entertainment are all in the line-up.
Mondays will feature “GPS Hi-Trek Adventures” in the morning and “Naturally Yours” in the afternoon. “Naturally Yours” will feature outdoor activity programs about the park’s environment. Get up close with a salamander, or meet and learn to identify trees and other forest creatures. “Hi-Trek Adventures” will teach you the basics of GPS technology, and you’ll get the chance to search for hidden caches placed especially for this program!
“Canoe Class” on Tuesdays will teach the basics of canoeing on flat water so you can better enjoy paddling the lake in comfort and style. That same evening will be “A/V Night.” Settle back and watch a creature feature starring species that live right here in Virginia’s Piedmont region, or a presentation of local or state history.
On Wednesdays come lend a “Helping Hand” in conserving and caring for our public places; they only thrive when we care for them. All ages are welcome at this stewardship program where you can truly make Bear Creek Lake, or the Cumberland State Forest, a part of your world.
Some of these weekday programs require advance registration, some are fee-based and some are free, just like our Friday through Sunday offerings. To check the events calendar click here or call Bear Creek Lake State Park at 804-402-4410 for more information.
