The Friends of Leesylvania State Park (FoLSP) actively participates in the Virginia State Parks mission to conserve natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources of the commonwealth and to provide recreational and educational opportunities consistent with good stewardship of these lands, water and facilities that leaves them unimpaired for future generations. You too can become involved.
You can earn benefits for your volunteer work. For example, you can earn free passes, free camping, and free cabin use at all Virginia State Parks. The ultimate benefit you can earn is a lifetime entrance pass to all Virginia State Parks along with the satisfaction of contributing to a great local resource.
Opened in 1992, Leesylvania State Park is considered to be one of the most highly enjoyed and visited day-use parks in Virginia. Only a mere 25 miles from Washington DC, Leesylvania is situated on its own peninsula out looking the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Leesylvania is a second home to local boaters and fisherman with its launching ramps and 300 foot accessible fishing pier. The park has five hiking trails passing through rich natural and historical features of the Potomac. The park also includes a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. The park boasts many scenic overlooks of the Potomac including one on the remains of a Civil War Confederate gun battery at Freestone Point. The park features a group primitive campground, boat-launch facilities, picnic areas and shelters, and a visitor centre filled with local history and wildlife, elaborate environmental education programs, miles of trails, concessions and gift shop.
Opportunities will continue to arise to support the park in a variety of ways. One of those ways is through the Friends group. Friends groups are non-profit organizations that are formed to support a local park through volunteerism, advocacy and fundraising efforts. Anyone interested in becoming involved with Friends of Leesylvania State Park, please call or e-mail and ask for information on joining and annual membership dues/donations. Dues and Donations are Tax Deductible.
