A Ceremony on Hallowed Ground” on Saturday, November 6, 2010 to commemorate Veterans Day . Five hundred luminaries are placed through the scene of some of the heaviest fighting during the battle, fought April 6, 1865, on the Hillsman farm.
This interpreter program is a commemorative ceremony honoring those who gave their lives in the fields and bottomlands of Sailor’s Creek. Historians in period dress will tell of the lives lost and those changed by the battle.
Tours are scheduled to run every hour on the hour starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Parking for the event will be at the field next to the Confederate Overlook. Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is on the National Register of Historical Places and listed as a National Historic Landmark. The park is also a site on Virginia Civil War Trails. The park is located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road in Amelia County.
