CUSTOMER CARE EXTRAORDINAIRE AT OCCONEECHEE STATE PARK
Close to the North Carolina border in the Virginia Piedmont near Clarksville is another state park gem called 18 miles of trails that meander through the forest and along the lake’s shore. The trails enable hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders to take in the beauty of Virginia’s Piedmont. Nature lovers can enjoy the wildlife attracted to habitat enhancement plots along the park’s main road. The plots attract various birds, deer and woodland creatures.
In the mid-season before the trees have foliated you have spectacular views of the water from nearly every cabin. In season the staff at Occoneechee State Park ensure the undergrowth is kept cleared for access to the shore and views (view maintenance). This is Virginia's largest lake.
We stayed in cabin 12 and encountered another extra special event at a Occoneechee State Park listened when we cried for help!

Ranger Kurt Gensman, Dolores and Arvis Customer Care Extraordinaire
Basically what happened is that we smelled "the smell" from our experience arises aromatically and assaults the senses after a small forest inhabitant, like a mouse, finds its way inside and then never makes it out alive, its shelf life expiring. The scent that becomes perpetually worse will not go away until the decomposing critter is removed.
We called upon the park staff to come out as the smell was emanating from a locked utility room, and hoped they would arrive in short time, so we left the cabin and took the family and dog for an interpretive walk on the Old Plantation Trail.
