Earth Day is this weekend, I hope you will consider attending an event on Saturday April 21st at one of our previous article on Earth Day events at our state parks).
Taking a walk from the cabin area at Natural Tunnel State Park(Park map here)
Walking a trail to the river at Natural Tunnel State Park
You know the saying "Take the stairs, not the elevator"
You can still enjoy the chair lift (going down to the tunnel and back after your walk!)
Every Virginia State Park will provide special Earth Day activities and programs. For a complete list of all state park Earth Day activities, Virginia State Parks website.
Bill Conkle Environmental Specialist for the Department of Conservation and Recreation
(DCR)said to the State Park Staff and it is worth repeating:
"However, if you cannot attend an event that fits your schedule, I highly recommend you find some way to celebrate the day: plant a tree, flowers, herbs or veggie garden or pledge to recycle, compost or take shorter showers,
or maybe even bike or walk to place you would normally drive.
It's great to work for a conservation agency,
but even greater to be a conservationist in our everyday lives."
I liked Bill's thought provoking comments, simple and to the point. We can all do what we can do on a daily basis to make this not only an earth day but earth month, year or life!
What do you plan to do this weekend to show you care? Here's an idea, if you can't make a state park event, how about inviting someone you know to take a walk?
