Editor's note: I asked the folks at Road Trip Rentals, one of our great partners and major prize sponsor for our 75th Anniversary celebration, to provide some tips about RVing and let you know a little about what they do.
As Earth Day approaches (Friday, April 22, 2011), here at Road Trip Rentals, Inc., we want to share our top three rules on how to be a Green RV-er. Did you know RV-ers tend to actually conserve their resources better than people in contemporary houses? RV-ers actually use considerably less water and energy than most people at home.
1. Here's a pretty big rule! If at all possible, do not use disposable PLASTICS!
Try to avoid all things plastic during your trip, unless they are reusable items. You can purchase camping kitchen sets from places such as LL bean. In the case that you have to have disposable dinnerware, try using paper plates instead.
2. Clean up after yourself.
This sounds like a pretty simple rule, but you may be surprised how many people do not follow this one. Basically, when you make a mess, please clean it up. Plus, always remember to recycle.
3. Be conscious of your energy usage.
Cut down on your electricity use, and make sure you turn off unnecessary utilities when you leave your RV. Try to avoid starting up the generator as much as possible, especially if it’s just to hang out in the RV all day. Make sure you take the time to enjoy your surroundings.
There are many ways you can make small changes, which collectively with everyone makes a BIG difference. So please, do your part and all of us benefit from a healthier planet!
