Claytor Lake State Park had 87 visitors participate in the Halloween activities on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010.
Fourteen campsites participated in decorating their campsite and day use guests were also invited to walk through each site and vote on the best one. Kimberly Smith of Cloverdale won and received two free nights of camping in Virginia State Parks.
Guests participated in the Claytor Lake Bike Tour of the Park at 10:30 a.m. and 21 guests participated between riding and walking.
The pumpkin carving contest had the most participation with 42 visitors carving various designs from bats, funny faces, football logos, and even Mickey Mouse. Guests also enjoyed face painting, animal pelts, and corn hole games.
Nine children dressed up in their Halloween costume for the Best Costume Contest. Prizes were awarded for the top three in each age category. The winner of the young children was dressed as Jasmine from the Disney movie Aladdin, and the winner of the older children was dressed as Cleopatra.
Later that evening the campfire program encouraged guests to tell a family friendly story of their own and marshmallows were provided. Later scarier stories were told to those who stuck around.
Three adults joined together to play a hilarious game of “Chubby Bunny.” The idea behind the game was to see who can get the most marshmallows in his or her mouth and still say “Chubby Bunny” without swallowing or spitting out any marshmallow. The winner won a bag of marshmallows.
