Seventy-three years ago this week, Virginia became the first state to open a system of State Parks on one day.
These parks were developed and constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and they still have many of the historic facilities constructed by those young men at our country’s time of greatest economic crisis.
Today we carry on the legacy of the CCC and our devotion to premier outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship with 35 state parks. From our oldest six to our newest park, High Bridge Trail State Park (just opened another 12 miles last week).
So take some time this week to think about the many years of service of dedicated people who have built and maintained these very special places in Virginia. And, why not come out and visit us to wish us many returns!
