Last year 2009 my husband and I took our two kids ages 3 and 5 on their first camping trip to Staunton River State Park. They had the best time ever. The campground was wonderful. There were so many other kids for them to play with riding their bikes and then playing at the pool. The staff at the park were wonderful they knew us by name after only one day and all of them were quick to stop and lend a hand or explain a nature question to our kids when asked. We enjoyed the hayride, marsh mellow roast and bug contest. We took our kids fishing and caught some blue gill, catfish and a long nose gar. The town had a parade and festival with fireworks. All in all we had such a great time we came back again a few weeks later and brought 3 other families with us and they enjoyed it as much as we did. This time when we went fishing we caught 3 very large catfish and the whole group enjoyed a delicious catfish dinner. We plan on coming back again this year and hope to have just as much fun.
