From my escape to Fairy Stone State Park last weekend…
What I see, by listening, by being still
a lakeside bench where lovers sat
holding hands, making plans for their future
a colorful songbird chirps to find a mate
echoing across the lake
where a fish breaches the surface
in hopes of his morning meal
funny, fish don't mind the rain
Cabin 2 at Fairy Stone State Park has the perfect waterfront setting
My family protesteth much
When we finally get away for a few days R&R I choose a Virginia State Park Cabin.Since I am the planner in the family, also known as "Mom", I pick the place. This year we had a short getaway toFairy Stone State Park.We don't live that far from this park, so we have never stayed overnight, but we have hiked the trails, gone to the beach in summer, picnicked and hunted for fairy stones here.
Why does my family think I am crazy?
I leave my blinds open and wake up with the sun. I don't get to do this at home, where we have an alarm set that actually disturbs you into waking up! But at the park cabin the family choose to close their blinds, and dream on…they want nothing more than to sleep in! I awake naturally with the sun coming up and start a pot of coffee…don my coat and scarf and am out the door.
I am inspired by someone close to me
My Dad is my inspiration for this. Whether it is from his antsy get-a-move-on personality or his love for the great outdoors, or a combination of both, this is something he has always done. While the family slept-in he was out scouting the area, seeing the world at its most beautiful, early morning, in the freshness of a new day, a new beginning.
Oh but the bed is warm and snuggly
As a child we would keep toasty and warm and wait for the smell of bacon to finally tempt us out of our sleeping bags. But now I have discovered a magnetic pull that may be from my genes, or the photographer in me. Or maybe it is because I don't have to get up, I want to!
The early bird does get the worm
There is simply no comparison to an early morning photo, when I arise from my overnight slumber, and the shift changes so the nocturnal ones outside turn in for bed…I have the place to myself!
Meet Walter
The one very brisk, frosty morning at Virginia State Parks were not romantic?
An overnight freeze brought on a lovely mist drifting over the lake
I will let you be the judge
A bench at the water's edge
The reflection was aglow all around the cabin
Yes, my family thinks I am crazy
I suppose they are right.
But if I listened to them I would have missed the kaleidoscope of fall at Fairy Stone State Park
This is the view they saw when they got up
This is the view I saw when I got up
Every time I look at Fairy Stone Lake the water changes colors and the sky!
