Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries announced new fishing regulations for Hungry Mother Lake effective April 9, 2009. The purpose for setting new regulations, according to Tom Hampton of DGIF, is to enable fish species to achieve maximum growth before harvest. Regulations have not changed for all fish in the lake, only species listed below are affected.
MUSKELLUNGE: LIMIT 2 PER DAY, 42” MINIMUM SIZE
HYBRID STRIPED BASS : LIMIT 2 PER DAY, 18” MINIMUM SIZE
WALLEYE: LIMIT 5 PER DAY, 18” MINIMUM SIZE
CATFISH :LIMIT 5 PER DAY, 18” MINIMUM SIZE
GRASS CARP: ILLEGAL TO POSSESS ANY SIZE
STATEWIDE LIMITS APPLY FOR ALL OTHER SPECIES.
GASOLINE MOTOR USE AND TROTLINES ARE PROHIBITED.
CASTNETS MAY BE USED TO COLLECT ALEWIVES FOR BAIT.
IT IS UNLAWFUL TO STOCK ANY SPECIES OF FISH INTO INLAND WATERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH WITHOUT FIRST OBTAINING WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF GAME AND INLAND FISHERIES.
