Visitors have often commented on the beautiful animal mounts on display in the Discovery Center at Hungry Mother State Park. But rangers felt that the display was incomplete. Something was missing. Or rather, someone.
That someone showed up on Tuesday, March 1. Park ranger Geoff Hall drove into the park with a black bear standing up in the back of his truck. The bizarre sight created quite a stir as it traveled down the local roadways!
The bear mount was loaned to Hungry Mother State Park by Lewis and Clark Outdoors, LLC, of Chilhowie, Virginia. The outfitters decided to share several animal mounts with the park. In addition to the black bear, Lewis and Clark Outfitters loaned the park a river otter, a coyote, and a groundhog. All of these animals have been added to the mountain forest diorama in the Discovery Center.
