Shawnee poses at the James River State Park sign
If you missed some of their earlier exploits in Virginia State Parks, Shawnee Shep and her mom are a great hiking team and live in New Jersey. This is their fourth visit to our Virginia State Parks. Shawnee and her mom hike most weekends and usually do long hikes, often 20 miles on a weekend. I invited them to visit Virginia, or as Shawnee calls it Furginia, and write about their hikes.

They used Holliday Lake state parks, two National Parks (Appomattox Courthouse and the Blue Ridge Parkway), part of the Appalachian Trail and National Forest sites. During their trip theu hiked a total of 63 miles!
Here are the links to their hikes. Shawnee has a wonderful writing style. She and my dig Yoda are friends on Twitter but have not gotten to meet for real yet – maybe their next trip to Virginia!

If you are a serious hiker and want specific details on all the hikes, stay tuned for tomorrow when I will feature the posts from this trip to Shawnee's mom's blog Gone Hikin'.
