As a kid Ialways worried about the gift I would give my mother for Mother’s Day. How could any gift in my price range possibly convey all the love and support she gave me 24/7/365? What I learned pretty fast was she always appreciated what I made or spent time doing more than the “easy” solution of buying something.
Life is hectic. Sometimes families seem like a group of people running out every day and coming home in time for bed. There seems precious little time for being with and enjoying the family. Ibet if you asked your mother, promising to spend the day with her and participating in a family activity would be the absolute best gift she could imagine. A Virginia State Park provides the perfect natural backdrop for a family day together.
Pack a picnic lunch, bring charcoal for a late afternoon dinner cookout, all of our parks have wonderful picnic areas freshly green with new growth after all our recent rain. Make a weekend of it by staying overnight in one of our campgrounds or cabins. Just take a drive to a Virginia State Park and hike a trail and enjoy bird or wildlife watching. Stop and smell the wild flowers!
For those interested in a more structured visit to a park, we have a number of programs that might be of interest on Sunday, May 10, 2009.
For food, our two parks with restaurants will be way more appreciated than your efforts in the kitchen that usually result in a colossal mess even if breakfast in bed is nice.
The Restaurant at our events page using the park name and the date to get times and additional information for the programs listed above.
Whatever you choose to do, a trip to a Virginia State Parks on Mother’s Day will be appreciated by your special mom.
