I have an hour commute to work so I often enjoy listening to NPR's Morning Edition on the way to the office. Before Christmas I enjoyed a segment on the current craze for consumers to be able to design their own products – everything from a pair of Nike's to a Burberry Trench Coat. At over $2,000 I am probably not going to take advantage of designing my own trench coat, but I have thought it would be fun to personalize some M&M candies.
Being the consummate marketing professional I thought, "hmmm how can we use this in Virginia State Parks?" Right away I realized, we already have all the tools someone would need to design their own custom vacation or getaway to a Virginia State Park. Here are the ten steps to do that.

Read about our overnight facilities and rental policies on our website – Whether you want to camp or stay in a cabin, be sure to check out Frequently Asked Questions section. If you still have questions, call our Reservation and Information Center at 800-933-7275. We're open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you need to find our what to do at the last minute, there is recorded information even when we're closed.
Decide what part of
Find a park by what you want to do – Maybe WHERE is less important to you than WHAT you want to do, or maybe it's a little of both. Our amenity search tool lets you search by activity across the state or just by geographic areas. Find which parks offer camping or cabins, swimming or fishing, boat rentals or picnic shelters.
Find programs or events – Whether you are looking for a guided program led by one of our trained interpretive programming staffsubscribing to our weekly enewsletter. Published each Thursday, the list and links include programs and events for the next 10 days.
Information Station at the park. Articles on our parks, facilities, staff and activities are also available on this site.
Find things to do in the local area – Check out the "Nearby Attractions" section of each park's web page for some ideas of things to do in the area. If you are looking for something in particular, call the park and ask. Our staff live in the area around the park so they have insider information on the best places to eat, shop and visit. Virginia is for Lovers and there is also much more information about things to do and see across the state on the Visit Virginia website.
