The on line magazine “The Virginia Reel” recently visited Holliday Lake State Park. While here, Dawn VanNess interviewed Dr. Jim Jordan, Park Naturalist, about unmarked graves within the park.
In the mid-1800s the Jones family buried at least three family members in a cemetery behind our modern-day concession stand. If you visit the park, I hope you will take the time tovisit the small cemetery. The grave markers indicate a certain level of wealth of the family. The young girls were lovingly laid to rest near Holliday Creek, after they obviously met untimely deaths. As you visit their final resting place, you can ponder thefragility of life, and imagine the hardships of those who came before us.
