Day 1 & 2:
A visit to Bear Creek Lake State Park in Cumberland is just a short trip from James River State Park. This is the perfect park for outdoor enthusiast with a 40-acre lake including a fishing pier. The park is also surrounded by 16,000 acres of Cumberland State Forest. Enjoy the pristine beauty by canoe or kayak, take a leisurely hike on one of the many trails or enjoy a day on the 4,500 acre lake. The park also has new cabins and campsites if you wish to extend your stay.
IN-THE-KNOW PIT STOPS
On your way to Bear Creek Lake you can take a side detour to pass the Historic Appomattox Court House where General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant held a meeting in the village to agree to terms of the reunification of the Nation. Find out more history by stopping through the town of Appomattox to visit this historic landmark.
