You may be thinking to yourself…what is geocaching and what is the VSP Geocaching Adventure?
Simply put, geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt using a GPS to find hidden containers by using the coordinates of their location and is great for people of all ages.

There are over a dozen types of geocaches from Mystery or Puzzle Caches in which you have to solve some type of puzzle in order to get the coordinates to the actual cache to your Traditional Cache consisting of a container and log book. Check out this rock cache. Do you think you would be able to spot this cache among a bunch of real rocks?
Rock caches that we tried out at New River Trail State Park
Before working for Occoneechee State Park. My husband and a couple of friends were renting a cabin in the middle of winter and decided to try out this thing called geocaching. One cache was all it took before we were hooked.
Family geocaching at Hungry Mother State Park
Walking through the woods took me back to my childhood when I would explore the woods behind my house from sun up until sun down. You get that sense of excitement not knowing what is around the corner and when you find one cache all you can think of is finding the next one. It’s a real sense of accomplishment when you find that container and sign your name to log book showing off that YOU found it.

If finding the container alone wasn’t enough of a reward for you, you can also trade out items in caches. The standard rule is if you take something from the geocache, leave something of equal or greater value. Items usually consist of little toys or trinkets, but I have even seen money in one!

Another item found in some geocaches is a trackable, a sort of geocaching "game piece" in which you take the item from one cache and place it in another cache. These trackables have a unique code that can be used to log its movements on Geocaching.com as it travels in the real world. Trackables can travel all over the world and you can see exactly where it has been.
