The Central Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist program and the Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park will host an Open House on Saturday, July 11th at 9:00 a.m. for anyone interested in joining the Friends of Bear Creek State Park or participating in training to become a certified Virginia Master Naturalist.
Guest presenter will be Gaston Rouse, Director of Volunteer & Alternative Resources for Virginia State Parks. Mr. Rouse will speak on the Youth Conservation Corps program that engages Virginia’s youth in a structured program of important conservation and park projects on public lands while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment.
Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park are a formal group of volunteers who have special interests to help support projects and programs that assist park management. These groups organize special events, raise money, schedule workdays and partner with local businesses.
Virginia Master Naturalist program develops a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their community. The Central Piedmont Chapter serves the counties of Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward.
The Open House will be held at Bear Creek Hall, located at Bear Creek Lake State Park at 22 Bear Creek Lake Road in Cumberland County. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Chapter. For more information, contact Tom Kneipp at www.virginiastateparks.gov.
