This weekend, I visited Grayson Highlands State Park along with my sister. I just want to let everyone know, it is a great park. Mountains, waterfalls, wild horses, and friendly rangers. Or are they park police now? Anyway, our first stop in the park was the Twin Pinnacles trail. Easy enough hike, with the exception of the short, but steep climb when you actually get to the pinnacles.
On the first one, we heard a jet. We looked for a second and realized that it probably had passed, but we had a 360 view, so we should be able to see it, right? What we didn't do was look down. We were 5080 feet up and the jet was coming around the mountain a few hundred feet below us. It would have made for a great picture, had I been ready. I had my wide angle lens out and by the time I switched, took off the lens cap, and set it up, he was around the mountain and climbing.
I got one shot that I was able to crop down enough to have someone tell me it was a Navy A-6E Intruder. Cool sight though, looking down on a jet like that.

This first picture is of a tree along that trail. I am curious how it grew roots over that rock. After that we went to see the wild ponies, though they did not seem very wild. They would pose, and eat from your hands.

The main purpose of this trip was fall foliage, which seemed to be just past peek, but I still managed to get a few shots. And that sunset was the last shot of the day. Here is the links to Grayson Highlands State Park and I highly recommend the visit. I will be going back in June for the wildflowers…
