Here at Holliday Lake State Park, the birds are singing, the wildflowers are blooming, our campgrounds are open, the fish are biting. I think Spring has sprung!
It might be a little chilly first thing in the morning, but by mid-day, it usually warms up nicely. When the sun is high in the sky, it's just perfect for a hike on one of our trails. It's also a great time of year for camping with your family, wetting a line in the lake, or just simply enjoying a picnic in the park. Our playgrounds are the perfect place for your preschoolers to run off some spring fever energy.
Some of the early wildflowers are beginning to bloom. Robert Chapman, Holliday Lake's Park Manager and Irene Frentz, District Resource Specialist recently commented on the large number of Trout Lillies coming up. The Pink Lady Slippers are coming up and will soon be blooming. There are many other wildflowers up and already blooming.
We've had some campers out enjoying the park over the last couple of weeks. If you aren't too crazy about sleeping outside when the temperatures sometimes dip below 40 degrees, how about checking out our Camping Lodge? It has heat, bunk beds, a microwave, refrigerator and coffee pot. You can still enjoy a campfire at the large campfire ring out back. You will be cozy and comfy while still enjoying the peace a quiet of Holliday Lake State Park in the Spring. It has a two-night minimum rental, but why would you want to stay only one night? It's a great weekend (or longer) get-away.
Did I mention the bluebirds are back? They are! They're looking for places to nest and we have just the spot! We have special bluebird boxes all over the park, just waiting for some cute couple to set up housekeeping and raise a little family. They are lovely to see and hear. So get out and enjoy nature. Spring is the perfect time!
