Last summer in New York City, 500 youth and young adults gathered for a Summit in Central Park, where they joined together to address the growing disconnect between the young people and the outdoors. Over the two day event, delegates developed an OUTDOOR NATION declaration, set a national outdoor agenda, outlined top priorities, identified on-the-ground actions and ultimately started a youth-driven movement.
This year, there will be a second OUTDOOR SUMMIT at Central Park in June followed by 4 regional Youth Summits (Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Denver and San Francisco) in late June and July. Each of the three day summits will be in partnership with local universities and will pull a diverse population from each region to identify local issues, develop strategies and solutions and ultimately commit to taking actions to get people outdoors!
We have the opportunity to send 30 young people – ages 18-28 to the Atlanta Summit (July 8-10). A bus will be leaving Virginia on July 7 and they will over-overnight in a South Carolina State Park and arrive in Atlanta on July 8. All travel, meals and conference costs will be covered by Outdoor Nation. If you know anyone interested in attending, please contact Paula Hill as soon as possible.
For more information about the summits, click here. There is no to register on-line. We will be compiling a first come, first served list and will coordinate all information with Outdoor Nation. This will be an exciting event for those participating.
Thanks for passing the opportunity on to those who meet the age requirement.
