Reminder: Estuaries Day at York River State Park
Saturday, August 23, 2014
Skimalong the surface of the waterwhile watching a bald eagle soar overhead.Listen to the joy of a child's laughter as she catches her first fish off the dock. Calm your ragged breathing as you finish the 5K run along the trails. Marvel at the fossils collected from this former undersea habitat. Look through a magnifying glass at a water strider suspended on the surface of the water. But wait there's more….
Smile at boisterous teens imagining they are X-games heroes havingnavigated Marl Ravine on their mountain bikes. Whisper softly for the camera as a deer watches curiously from the forest edge. Be transported 200 years into the past while perusing the display of archeological finds–buttons, pipes, spurs, arrowheads, and beads. Want to do all this in one day?
Multiple paddling trips are on the schedule for Estuaries Day
You CAN do all those things on the same day!

The Eastern Virginia Mountain Biking Association will be guided rides and helping out. This is a perfect time to learn more about bikes, techniques, and tips.
Don't forget, if you are into boating or sailing, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be there demonstrating different types of signal flares. As a coastal resident, basic knowledge of maritime signals anddistress calls are a good thing tolearn.Grab your camera, pack your water shoes, and wear your hiking boots…it is going to be a great outdoor day!
