Come join Douthat State Park on Saturday to celebrate 75 years!
There will be a special anniversary celebration with The Honorable Creigh Deeds, senator of Virginia, as a keynote speaker and cake cutting at 10 a.m. at the amphitheater.
Enjoy free cake, inflatable jumpers, games, paddle boat races, $0.75 hotdog and drink, and more.
On June 15, 1936, Virginia became the first state in the nation to open an entire state park system on the same day. In recognition of the anniversary, state park visitors will receive free parking in all parks June 13-19.
In 2010, Virginia State Parks hosted more than 8 million visitors who contributed around $189 million to Virginia’s economy with 224,269 visitors from Douthat State Park.

The grand prizes include the use of a 31-foot motor home for a week’s travel in Virginia and seven nights in a state park campground, sponsored by Coastal RV of Carrollton.
Stick around Saturday Evening to enjoy Cary Rutledge performing folk music at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater.
On Sunday, June 19, join the Rev. Grover Nicely from Oak Grove Advent Christian Church for a nondenominational worship service at the beach amphitheater starting at 8 a.m.
Spend Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19 at Douthat State Park to finish out the Birthday Weekend at Douthat State Park.
Come to the Discovery Center at 10 a.m. and turn trash into treasure to make a special greeting card for Dad. Paper will be made by hand, personalized for gifting, and embedded with wildflower seeds so flowers will grow if Dad plants his card in a flower pot or garden at home.
Stop by the Lakeview Restaurant for a $12.99 lunch special of rib eye steak, southern fried chicken, grilled ham steak, or a shrimp dinner.
At 2 p.m. make a special gift for Dad or even with Dad at the Discovery Center. Projects include a screech owl box for $20, a butterfly house for $16, a bat house for $12, a phoebe or robin platform for $10, a squirrel feeder for $6 or a bird feeder for $4.
Take a special guided hike with Dad on one of our many trails at 4 p.m. Meet at the Discovery Center and take a hike to find wildflowers in bloom, identify trees, and learn about the natural history of Douthat State Park.
