“Flying geese,” “log cabins” and “rising stars” were apparent at Douthat State Park this past weekend – but they weren’t in the sky, in the woods, or flying over the lake.
These geese, cabins and stars were in the beautiful quilts being sewn at the park. Sponsored by Creasy Lodge at Douthat. Eighteen women from the area gathered for three days of quilting, fellowship, and outdoor recreation. “It’s the perfect location for our event,” said Cheryl Thompson, owner of Tender Heart Quilts and the organizer of the weekend retreat. “The building is perfectly set up, and offers plenty of room for us to work on our quilting projects and spend time together. We always have a great time when we are here.”
While at Douthat, many of the women also took advantage of the beautiful fall colors – walking on trails and getting inspiration from nature. But quilting was the main focus of the weekend, and projects were finished in front of the cozy fireplace at the lodge. What better way for quilters to spend a fall weekend?
Tender Heart Quilts is located at 4434 Cowpasture River Highway in Millboro, Virginia and is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The next retreat is planned for April of 2011. For more information on Tender Heart Quilts, click here.
