That highest point would be Mt. Rogers, at 5729 feet (1746 meters) on the Grayson/Smyth county line.
Come to the mountains!
The landscape, water resources, geology, plants, wildlife, insects, and cultural history of Mt. Rogers and its surrounding area are the focal points for the 37th annual Mt. Rogers Naturalist Rally, held this year on May 11-12, 2012.
The event is headquartered at the Konnarock Community Center (near the Smyth/Washington county border). Great family fun and something for everyone! Many field trips are offered, with the purpose of making “the Mount Rogers area ecology understandable and interesting for everyone, from inquisitive amateurs to accomplished naturalists” (according to the Rally Web site).
