Old Man Winter is gone. Flowers are in bloom. And soon thousands of guest will seek relaxation and recreation in the York River state parks.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch of barbecued chicken from our host and a variety of pot-luck favorite sides. This meeting is a great opportunity for us to catch up with old friends and make new ones as we all seek to make this year successful for all of our parks. [No state funds were used to provide food for the event].
Food and friendship were not the only things on our agenda. After being welcomed by our District Manager, Fred Hazelwood, we were also greeted by members of the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Knowledgeable staff members gave presentations of topics ranging from invasive insects, merchandising, law enforcement issues, and customer service.
Representatives from the State Parks central office in Richmond were on hand to share more information on reservations, social networking, and plans for our 75th Anniversary Celebration.
We are grateful for First Landing and the District One leadership for their work. The meeting has informed and inspired us all to be safe and give all of our guests enjoyable visits to the parks in our region.
