Natural Tunnel State Park Manager Craig Seaver was selected as the Linda Cox award recipient at the Department of Conservation and Recreation Employee Awards last month.
A twenty-five year veteran of Virginia State Parks, Mr. Seaver has been Park Manager at “the Tunnel” as he lovingly refers to it since 1989. In October he was host to a dedication ceremony that celebrated the opening of ten cabins and a new campground at the park. A consumate professional, he is well respected in the community and among his state park family.
The Linda Cox Award is not the typical employee of the year or special recognition award. It is a memorial award named after Linda Cox.Linda served as executive assistant to the DCR director for nine years, and was known to friends and family for having a wonderful attitude and personality. After a valiant battle with cancer, Linda died in 2006. The award was created and named in her honor that year.
Linda was a genuine “people person.” She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and bringing people together. She also loved working at DCR and spoke about it often. Long-time DCR employees point to Linda’s professionalism, service-oriented attitude and friendliness as examples of the best characteristics DCR employees should strive to achieve.
Mr. Seaver was selected to receive the award because his career has embodied those same characteristics. So the next time you’re out at the Tunnel, be sure and stop by to say hello.
