Public lands are often referred to as treasures or hidden gems, places tucked neatly away that not everyone knows about. Public lands hold a special place in many people’s lives. They are attached to these places by their memories and by the experiences that they have had there. Public lands offer a unique view of nature, tidbits of local history, or that special piece of knowledge about how our environment works. The appreciation that people have gained for our public lands will be celebrated across the country on September 24th as part of National Public Lands Day.
